Scott Marks enters his third year at Purdue North Central and will serve as the Pitching Coach once again. Last year in his first year as pitching coach Marks helped lower the team ERA to a school record of 3.78, a significant improvement from 2010.
In his first season Marks served as the hitting and outfield coach. During that time the Panthers batted over .300 and slugged over .400 for the season under his leadership.
Marks graduated from Purdue North Central in 2008 with a Bachelors of Liberal Studies degree and played baseball for head coach John Weber in the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
As a freshman Marks attended Grand Rapids Community College (MI). After red-shirting his first season, he was a pitcher as Grand Rapids won their third straight NJCAA D-II National Championship.
Marks transferred to a NCAA D-II school LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, TN for his sophomore season. He earned 2nd Team All-Conference as a designated hitter in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, batting .330, with 5 home runs and 14 stolen bases. As a pitcher, the right-hander led the team in games started, wins and ERA, finishing 7-2 in 14 starts with a 2.97 ERA.
Marks concluded his career at PNC as a pitcher where he helped the Panthers to a second place finish in the CACC in 2007. He finished 4-2 with a 5.22 ERA, 16 K's and just 8 BB's in 29.1 innings, including 3 starts while finishing fifth on the team with 11 appearances. The Panthers finished 28-22 overall and 13-7 in the CCAC. The second place finish, along with the 2009 team's standing is still the highest in program history. Once again, PNC qualified for the postseason but were eliminated in the CCAC Tournament.
As a senior in 2008, Marks helped the Panthers to a third place finish in the CCAC. Marks, limited in the season due to a broken foot, finished 2-2 with a 5.95 ERA in 8 appearances (3 starts). The Panthers finished 28-21 overall and 14-6 in the CCAC, going to the final day of the regular season before losing the conference championship and slipping to 3rd place. However, PNC qualified for the postseason and was defeated in the CCAC Tournament Championship game in extra innings.
Before starting his coaching career at PNC, Marks worked as an Industrial Hygienist for Pekron Consulting Inc. out of Whiting, IN. He spent his time in and out of Northwest Indiana's largest steel mills and power stations checking safety compliance and air quality.
Marks graduated from Berrien Springs HS in Michigan in 2003 where he helped the baseball program achieve some of their best seasons in program history under Head Coach John Donely. Marks, a four year letterman in baseball, finished 8-2 on the mound in 2003 and played shortstop when not pitching.
Currently, Marks works in the Admissions/Financial Aid office at PNC and recently completed his Masters in Business Administration from PNC in 2011.
Marks, 27, of Watervliet, MI and his wife Elizabeth of Chesterton, IN, reside in Porter County. Marks is the son of Don and Deanna Marks and has two sisters Brittany and Heidi, and one brother, Bob.
