
The PNC volleyball team traveled to Manchester College over the weekend to participate in Manchester College's Pizza Hut Invitational. On Saturday, the Panthers faced off against Anderson College and Millikin College and on Sunday, PNC played Manchester College and St. Mary's College. The Panthers won their first match of the day on Saturday against Anderson College in five games by the scores of 23-25, 27-25, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11. The Panthers lost to Millikin in their second match on Saturday in 4 Games by the scores of 11-25, 25-19, 13-24, and 23-25. On Sunday, The Panthers were able to defeat St. Mary's in 4 games by the scores of 25-13, 25-22, 23-25, and 25-22. In their last match of the tournament, PNC defeated Manchester College in 3 games by the scores of 25-21, 25-19, 25-17.
In the match versus Anderson, The Panthers were led offensively by Tara Irwin, Emily Mozwecz, and Taylor Katzellis who had 15, 14, and 13 kills respectively. Brandi Allen did a great job of running the offense and collected 45 assists and 2 service aces. Kirah Fifiled led the defensive charge with 30 digs and Mozwecz chipped in with 20.
The Panthers played inconsistently against Millikin College. Defensively, Fifield led the team with 33 digs. Mozwecz led the offense with 14 kills. Magen Starosczak was the team's most productive server; she ended up with 5 aces. Allen racked up 32 assists on the season to go along with her 2 aces.
The leaders for the Panthers offensively against St. Mary's were Tamra Schmucker, Mozwecz, and Irwin. Schmucker had 15 kills to go along with her 3 solo blocks and 2 assist blocks. Irwin had 9 kills and 2 assist blocks. Mozwecz had 11 kills, 2 solo blocks, and 12 digs. Allen Collected 41 assists, 7 digs, and one ace in the victory.
It was a great team effort against Manchester and it was the most consistent ball that PNC played all weekend. Mozwecz and Irwin led the team in kills with 11 and 7. Fifield led in digs with 23 followed by Dhoore who had 11. Allen collected 31 assists in the victory.
The Panthers overall record is now 15-4. The next match for the Panthers is away on Tuesday versus Judson College.
