The Purdue North Central basketball team lost 109-64 to St. Francis University Monday night in Joliet, IL in the opening round of the CCAC Tournament.
St. Francis jumped out to a 19 point lead early in the game before the Panthers rallied to cut the lead to 8 points at 36-28. But the Fighting Saints finished the half with a flourish to make it 55-31 at the break.
St. Francis quickly put the game away at the start of the second period and cleared their bench en route to a 54-33 second half score.
Junior Terrell John led the Panthers with 17 points while sophomores Kewon Ollie and Matthew Brown added 10 apiece. Ollie had a nice all-around game and finished with a team high in rebounds (5) and a game high in assists (5) while adding 3 steals.
Andrew Lerg, Chris Miller and Billy Hubly had 16 points apiece to lead the Saints. Jaylen Thompson had a game high 6 rebounds and added 8 points.
St. Francis was hot from the outset and made 36 of 70 (51%) shots overall and an impressive 13 of 32 (41%) three's. They also connected on 24 of 31 from the line (77%). The Panthers responded by making 19 of 53 overall (36%), 5 of 20 three's (25%) and 21 of 30 (70%) at the line.
The Panthers (#13 seed) concluded their season at 6-25 overall while the Fighting Saints (#4) improved to 20-11 and advanced to Wednesday's game against visiting Olivet Nazarene (#5).
