The Purdue North Central volleyball team finished 1-3 in their opening tournament of the season this past weekend at the Concordia University Kick Off tournament in Ann Arbor, MI. The tournament also kicked off the Brian Erminger era in his collegiate coaching debut for the Panthers. On Friday the Panthers fell 3-0 to Calumet College of St. Joseph in straight sets. In their second match Friday evening PNC won 3-1 over Ohio State University Marion. Saturday morning the Panthers lost to the hosts 3-0 before dropping the finally 3-1 to Lawrence Tech (MI).
The highlight of the weekend was the selection to the All Tournament team by Freshman Vickie Flanders, an outside hitter from Washington Township HS in Valparaiso. She compiled 28 Kills out of 101 attempts (.277) for the weekend and added 7 aces, 15 digs, and 4 blocks to her early collegiate career stat book.
Senior captain Jamie Lowther contributed with her performance of 42 kills on 99 attemps (.424) 4 aces, 20 assists, and 30 digs. Senior LB Jessica Dhoore added 85 digs and compled a 2.4 passing rating from the weekend.
"Overall, it was a great experience for this young squad that primarily started 4-5 freshman and a sophomore in every game," said Erminger. "Once we get seniors Kaelyn Marcus and Brittany Piaseczny into the lineup, I see more great things happening for this team."
PNC plays again at IU Kokomo on Tuesday the 21st at 6 p.m. central time. They then head to Goshen IN, on Thursday for a tri-match contest against Goshen and Concordia University (MI) scheduled for 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. CT.
