
Panthers battled hard but errors handed the wins to Robert Morris.
Despite out hitting their opponent in both games, critical Panther errors hand Robert Morris the wins 6-4 and 8-6.
It was a difficult game one late for PNC. The Panthers took the lead early in the second inning 1-0 and added to their lead in the fourth pushing the score to 2-0. But five critical errors late in the game allowed Robert Morris to take the win in the ninth 6-4.
Strong offense kept the Panthers in the game. PNC lead into the seventh when Robert Morris took their first lead of the game 4-2. The Panthers answered back tying the game and forcing extra innings. After a tough eighth inning, the Panthers were unable to answer back after Robert Morris scored two in the top of the ninth taking the win 6-4.
Hillary Hoffman led the way offensively for PNC earning three hits and two RBI's. Jaci Williams and Ashlee Keil added a hit a piece both earning an RBI. Sam Jones helped move the Panthers around the bases with three hits while Sandi Downs tapped in two hits and Megan Olson earned one hit.
None of the Panthers struck out in the game.
Williams started in the circle for PNC going six and a third innings allowing four unearned runs on six hits, striking out two. Karissa Inglis finished the game going two and two thirds innings allowing two unearned runs on one hit, striking out two.
Neither of the Panther pitchers gave up any walks in the game.
PNC cleaned up their fielding in game two but two errors cost them two runs. In the end, the Panthers lost the game 8-6.
Once again the Panthers struck in the second inning scoring two runs and taking the lead 2-0. Robert Morris answered back in the third taking the lead 3-2. The Eagles added to their lead in the fifth scoring five runs. PNC struck back scoring two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Despite a solid seventh inning, the Panthers could only muster one run in the seventh giving the win to Robert Morris.
Sam Jones had three hits in the game with one RBI. Jones also earned her 13th homer of the season. Jones sits one home run behind the team record of 14 set by Jessica Morgan in 2011.
Olson, Downs, and Gernenz each had a hit and an RBI while a patient Amber Welsh earned an RBI on her at bat. Keil moved the runners with two hits of her own.
Welsh pitched a complete game for the Panthers allowing eight runs (6 earned) on eight hits, walking one.
The Panthers move to 21-26 on the year, 6-8 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. PNC will be back in action Saturday, April 21st when they host Cardinal Stritch University in Conference action. Game begins at noon.
