
PNC took both games in their double header against Trinity Christian College in CCAC season opener Thursday afternoon, winning 9-3 and 8-5.
The Panthers brought out the heavy bats to start game one of the double header hitting two runs in the first and continued throughout the game to score nine runs on 14 hits. Junior Sandi Downs went 2 for 4 on the day, hitting her first homer of the season while Freshman Hillary Hoffman turned in a solid performance with four RBI's. Senior Megan Olson began the climb out of her hitting slump going 3 for 5 while Senior Lindsay Gernenz continued to stay hot hitting 3 for 4. Senior Karissa Inglis continues to improve going 2 for 4 and Freshman Sam Jones went 2 for 4 in the game.
Junior Jaci Williams started on the mound for PNC going 5 innings with Inglis closing out the last two. Their combined efforts limited the Trolls to three runs.
The bats stayed hot for PNC in game two with multiple hits from Olson, Gernenz, Inglis, Jones, Hoffman and Freshman Ashlee Keil. Their combined efforts earned the Panthers 14 hits in the game.
Junior Amber Welsh earned a complete game victory, giving up only one earned run over six innings.
The game was called for darkness in the 6th inning handing PNC the victory 8-5.
The Panthers improve to 11-11 on the season and 2-0 in the Chicogoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. PNC travels to Goshen College Saturday, March 24th for a double header matchup. Game time 12:00 pm.
