La Porte, IN - The visiting Eagles of Judson University (6-13, 4-2) shot a blistering 65 percent from the field in the first half and 54 percent for the game en route to claiming a 65-36 victory over the Panthers (3-15, 2-4) on Wednesday night.
Midway through the first half, the Eagles used an 11-3 run to build their lead to 19-11 with just under 9:00 minutes to play in the first half. The deficit for the Panthers would increase to as many 14 points with 4:45 left to play in the half, before the Panthers put together back to back scoring possessions and the Eagles hot shooting cooled. The Panthers' run cut the deficit to eight points, resulting in a 30-22 halftime score.
The Eagles' defense and size frustrated the Panthers and held them to scoring just six points throughout the second half's first 12:30 of action and only making three field goals the entire second half. Meanwhile, the Eagles' incredible shooting pace continued and helped establish a 54-28 lead before capturing their second straight victory in CCAC Conference play.
The Panthers were outrebounded by the Eagles by a margin of 40-26 and forced the Panthers into shooting just 13 percent from the field in the second half and just 22 percent for the game.
The Panthers were led in scoring, rebounding, and steals by freshman guard Mario Herron (Hammond, IN) with nine points on four of eight shooting, six rebounds, and two steals.
The Eagles were paced in scoring by Brian Pedersen, Adam Hodge, and Josh Edwards, each scoring 17, 15, and 11 points respectively.
The Panthers next is opponent is CCAC Conference front-runner, Cardinal Stritch University (15-4, 6-0). The game will be played at the La Porte Civic Auditorium on Saturday, January 14 at 7:00pm CST.
