This week  I had the chance to interview Purdue North Central's volleyball  senior captain and team libero Megan Staroscsak. We discussed the upcoming season and expectations for the Panthers this year. Below is a excerpt of the interview.

Sean Casey- As captain of the volleyball team what are your expectations for the team this upcoming school year?

Megan Staroscsak- Our goal is to win conference and make a run in the playoffs while working hard through every game.  We all get along great and use that bond on the court to play together.

SC- How many players do you currently have on your roster?  How many girls are returning?

MS- We currently have 8 players on our roster, 4 of which are returning players.

SC- Do you think with the amount of players that you have returning that you will be able to achieve what you were capable of doing last year?

MS- Our goals are not to achieve what we did last year, we want to do better than we did last year and I have confidence in the team that we will pass those expectations.

SC- Since you have been playing since your freshman year, what have you seen change in the program?

MS- The fan support has definitely grown a lot and it's awesome to see everyone there cheering for PNC.

SC- Looking at the upcoming schedule, who do you foresee as your biggest opponent for the upcoming season? Why is this so?

MS- Trinity Christian is supposed to be a tough opponent this year because they recruited a girl who is a very strong hitter. Olivette Nazarene is always a tough opponent also.

SC- Since you have a limited amount of girls on the team, are there any girls that are going to have to play out of a position that they may not be comfortable with or ever played before?

MS-Jessica Novak had to convert from a defensive position to a setter, which is new to her.  She however has adapted very quickly and is doing a great job as our setter. I have confidence in her to help our hitters get a lot of kills for our team this year.

SC-Since practice has started what do you deem as some of the strengths of the 2011 team?  What are some of the weaknesses?

MS-Some of the strengths of this team are definitely serving and defense. Since we are a smaller team, we rely on our defense to bring our offense together. The weakness of this team is that we don't have much height.
