Scott Marks, assistant baseball coach at Purdue North Central for the past three years, has been named the Head Baseball Coach at the Illinois Institute of Technology, a fellow member of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. His anticipated start date at IIT is August 27^th.

"We're all excited for Scotty and this wonderful opportunity," said PNC Head Coach John Weber. "His goal was to be a head collegiate coach and he earned it with the outstanding job he did at PNC. It's another successful story for our Panther Athletic Department and our baseball program specifically."

Last year, assistant basketball coach Jace Thompson was named the Head Basketball Coach at Indiana University Kokomo and former baseball assistant Gary Demski was named the Athletic Director at Indiana University South Bend three years ago. 

Marks earned his Bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies from PNC in 2008 and played for Weber in the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He earned his MBA from PNC's Graduate Studies program in 2011.

The new skipper served as the PNC's Pitching Coach the last two years.  In his first year as pitching coach in 2011 Marks helped lower the team ERA to a school record of 3.78, a significant improvement from 2010.

Besides coaching, Marks competed successfully in the CCAC as a player. As a pitcher he helped the Panthers to a second place finish in the CACC in 2007 by finishing 4-2 with a 5.22 ERA, 16 K's and just 8 BB's in 29.1 innings. He had 3 starts and finished fifth on the team with 11 appearances. The Panthers finished 28-22 overall and 13-7 in the CCAC. The second place finish, along with the 2009 team's standing is still the highest in program history. Once again, PNC qualified for the postseason but were eliminated in the CCAC Tournament.

As a senior in 2008, Marks helped the Panthers to a third place finish in the CCAC. He was limited due to a broken foot but finished 2-2 with a 5.95 ERA in 8 appearances (3 starts). The Panthers finished 28-21 overall and 14-6 in the CCAC, going to the final day of the regular season before losing the conference championship and slipping to 3rd place. However, PNC qualified for the postseason and was defeated in the CCAC Tournament Championship game in extra innings.

Before starting his coaching career at PNC, Marks worked for one year as an Industrial Hygienist for Pekron Consulting Inc. out of Whiting, IN. He spent his time in and out of Northwest Indiana's largest steel mills and power stations checking safety compliance and air quality.

The new head coach expands the already extensive coaching tree of PNC head coach John Weber. Remarkably, he will be Weber's 8^th assistant coach to land a head job. Weber's former assistant coaches currently serving as head coaches include: Damon Day (University Nebraska Kearney), Marc Marizzaldi (Seton Hill College, PA), Jason Bartelt (Marian College, WI), Harry Torgerson (Triton College, IL) and John Govek (Ashford University, IA).  Chris Thousand (Lakeland College, WI) and Chad Gorman (Dana College, NE) also previously served as head coaches.  

His impact in the coaching profession reaches further as several of his former players are currently coaching at the collegiate and high school level including current head coach Mike Bachar (Lakeland College) and current assistant coaches Tyler Schmidt (Wisconsin Lutheran College) and Mitch Heinemeyer (Lakeland College).
