The Purdue North Central baseball team swept a CCAC doubleheader from Trinity International Saturday afternoon in Deerfield, IL behind strong pitching from seniors Shane Prance and Tony Hoolehan.

In the first game Prance allowed 2 runs and 3 hits in the first inning and just 4 more hits the rest of the game as PNC won 4-2. The righty settled in and was crisp all day, striking out 10 against 2 walks.  He added onto his single season strikeout record and moved his total for the year to 77.  Ironically, it broke the record of 62 established by Hoolehan last season.

The Panthers were outhit 7-5 and committed 2 errors while Trinity International had none, but manufactured single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th innings for the difference. PNC also took advantage of 7 Trojan walks and stole 3 bases.

Senior Nate Hall led the way with 2 hits (2B, 2 SB's) and a walk while sophomore Kevin Gates added 2 hits (2B) and a stolen base. Sophomore Ed Moldenhauer (BB) and juniors Brad DuBois and Greg Toliver (BB) all had sacrifice flies for the Panthers.

In the second game Hoolehan threw a 4-hit shutout on just 79 pitches and junior Ched Gaskin set the single season RBI record at PNC with an RBI single. Gaskin's total of 62 moved him past former PNC great Chris Schultz who managed 61 RBI's in 2009 when he was a First Team All-American. Schultz was on hand to witness the event as he currently serves as an assistant coach for the Panthers.

"I'm really excited for Ched," said Schultz. "He's earned it with the incredible year he's having and I hope he can add on to the total before the year is out."

Gaskin also added onto his single season record for walks in a season by a Panther when he picked up his 26th freebie of the season. He broke the record established by former Panther standout Ryan Hawkins who had 22 in 2005.  Hawkins could not be reached for comment.

Hoolehan's only real trouble came in the 7th inning as he needed 19 pitches overall and escaped a 2-out bases loaded jam by inducing a groundout to Moldenhauer to end the game. He struck out 5, walked 3 and hit 2 batters.

Purdue North Central used 7 hits, 4 walks and 4 Trojan errors to once again systematically score single runs in the 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th innings.

Gaskin (BB), DuBois and Gates all had 2 hits with Gates and senior Jeff Strbjak picking up RBI's.

The Panthers play again on Tuesday when they take on Judson University in another CCAC doubleheader at 4 p.m. in Elgin, IL.
